Data center development near homes
Data center construction has become a flashpoint in Northern Kentucky's county commissioner races, including Kenton County's. At a regional candidate forum, candidates debated slowing data center projects, citing noise pollution, stress and unknown medical effects on people living close to them, and noting that projects in other states have been built near homes.

I do not want them to have to deal with the noise pollution, all that stress... We don't know what can happen medically if you live close to a data center.
Positions on this issue ยท liberal → conservative
- Block new large data centers in the county until their health, noise and utility impacts are fully understood.
- Require strict local review, noise limits and buffer zones that keep data centers away from neighborhoods.
- Approve projects case by case, adding conditions where noise, health or infrastructure concerns are documented.
- Generally welcome data centers under existing zoning, since they bring investment and tax revenue.
- Actively recruit data centers with incentives and fast-tracked permits to capture jobs and revenue.
