Agriculture in Texas is a $100 billion industry and is vital to our district’s economy and to the state of Texas. I have the pleasure of representing 13 counties, and farming and ranching are major economic drivers in many of these counties. Farmers and ranchers in our district are innovative, hard-working, and iconic. There are a number of challenges our farmers face – excessive regulation, increasingly competitive foreign markets, and rising costs of planting, growing, and harvesting a crop

Business and Consumers
Issue Position
As a small business owner, I understand the importance of cutting taxes and regulation to get Washington out of our business. This is the best way to encourage job creation, inspire innovation, and ensure that the U.S. remains globally competitive. I support the tax cuts that were enacted into law for 2018 and I will defend them from liberals in Washington who want to repeal them and take that money out of your wallets! The tax cuts have spurred hundreds of billions of dollars in investments across American businesses large and small.

Issue Position
Providing for a strong national defense is one of the primary Constitutional responsibilities of the federal government. The failure to do this will jeopardize our national sovereignty and every Constitutional liberty. I voted for defense funding legislation that will rebuild our national defense while providing our troops with the resources, equipment and training they need to defend our nation.

Education
Issue Position
Providing an opportunity for our children to be educated in great schools is key to a successful future. As the husband of a public school teacher and the father of three students, I am continually aware of the value of a good education, both for individuals and for our nation. A well trained workforce is key to our economic success and global competitiveness, especially in the ever-changing world of the 21st Century.

Energy
Issue Position
The United States has been blessed with abundant natural resources and must continue to develop American energy so we can provide reliable, affordable energy that powers our country and the world. Texas is at the forefront of this energy revolution. The ports in our district are some of the best in the world. I am working to ensure that these economic drivers reach their full potential and are not hindered by the overreach of Washington bureaucrats as has so often been the case in the past.

Health and Health Care
Issue Position
Obamacare directly put Washington bureaucrats between you and your doctor and drove up the cost of healthcare for millions of Americans through unaffordable premiums with little coverage. Many families are still having to decide between paying their premiums or their mortgage. This system of high costs for little to no care has to end.

Immigration
Issue Position
To truly secure the border, we need to have strong interior enforcement that includes removing magnets and pursuing visa overstays. While there is no definitive number, visa overstays account for a vast number of illegal immigrants.

Senior Citizens
Issue Position
We must ensure that Social Security and Medicare are preserved for seniors, as millions of seniors paid into these programs and depend on them. The commitment our nation made to those who are retired or who are nearing retirement age must be met and we should not make changes for those in or nearing retirement.

Veterans
Issue Position
Our nation owes our veterans a tremendous debt, and we must keep our promises to those who have worn the uniform and bear the scars from defending this nation that we love so dearly. I have voted for legislation that will help fulfill these promises, including funding for the VA MISSION Act, which will help the VA improve services for veterans dealing with PTSD, opioid addiction, and homelessness.
