How should California address its ongoing cost-of-living and affordability crisis?

Invest heavily in public subsidies, rent control, and universal services to directly reduce costs for working families.

Combine targeted subsidies with structural housing and energy reforms to address both symptoms and root causes.

Focus on increasing housing supply and reducing permitting red tape as the primary driver of affordability relief.

Cut state regulations and taxes that drive up business costs, allowing market competition to lower prices naturally.

Dramatically reduce the size and spending of state government; affordability crises are caused by government overreach.

What should California do about projected fuel price spikes from refinery closures?

Accelerate green transition and transit so residents depend less on gasoline despite higher pump prices

Pair clean-energy investment with temporary consumer relief and managed phase-down of refining

Monitor supply and use targeted measures only if prices spike severely

Ease environmental rules and incentives to keep remaining refining capacity online longer

Halt policies driving refinery exits and prioritize cheap, reliable fuel supply over climate mandates

Should California shrink or expand the size and role of state government?

Expand state programs and staffing to meet housing, health, climate, and equity goals

Grow targeted public capacity where needs are greatest while improving efficiency

Hold government size roughly steady and focus on better performance

Reduce bureaucracy and spending while protecting core safety-net functions

Significantly shrink state government, cut taxes, and return more functions to markets and localities

How should California treat the benefits and costs of immigration?

Expand immigrant inclusion, legal protections, and state services regardless of federal crackdowns

Affirm immigrants as a net benefit and sustain sanctuary-style and integration policies

Welcome legal immigration while enforcing laws and weighing local fiscal impacts case by case

Tighten enforcement cooperation and limit state benefits to reduce costs of illegal immigration

Prioritize strict border and interior enforcement and end state policies that attract unlawful migration

How far should California go in mitigating climate change?

Lead with the strongest possible mandates, phase-outs, and public investment regardless of federal pullback

Keep ambitious state climate targets and clean-energy buildout with equity safeguards

Support climate action balanced against reliability and household cost impacts

Scale back costly mandates and favor gradual, technology-neutral emissions approaches

End California-only climate rules that raise energy costs and leave mitigation to national/global markets

What should California’s policy be on abortion access?

Expand and shield abortion access with state funding, interstate protections, and no gestational bans

Maintain broad legal access and defend it against federal or out-of-state restrictions

Keep abortion legal with some limits after viability and conscience accommodations

Impose earlier gestational limits and increase regulation of providers and minors’ access

Prohibit abortion except in narrow cases such as life of the mother

Should California require voter identification at the polls or for ballots?

Oppose voter ID as a barrier; expand automatic registration and mail voting access instead

Reject strict ID mandates while improving secure, convenient voting options for all eligible voters

Allow flexible ID or affidavit options without creating new hurdles for eligible voters

Require reasonable photo or documentary ID with free IDs provided to those who lack them

Mandate strict photo ID for all in-person and mail ballots to prevent fraud

How should California revise its tax laws on the 2026 ballot?

Raise taxes on high earners and corporations to fund housing, health, and climate programs

Adjust taxes progressively to sustain services while offering targeted middle-class relief

Keep overall tax levels stable and only close loopholes or make technical fixes

Cut selected taxes and fees that burden families and employers without gutting core services

Broadly lower taxes and limit future increases to shrink government and spur growth

Should California expand access to low-cost mortgages through ballot measures?

Strongly expand public and subsidized low-cost mortgage programs for low- and moderate-income buyers

Support expanded low-cost mortgages paired with more affordable housing supply

Allow limited mortgage assistance if it is fiscally sustainable and well targeted

Prefer private lending and zoning reform over new government mortgage subsidies

Oppose expanded state-backed mortgage programs as market-distorting taxpayer risk

What approach should California’s insurance commissioner take on climate and disaster risk?

Mandate broad coverage availability, suppress unjustified rate hikes, and push insurers on climate risk

Balance consumer protection with rules that keep insurers in high-risk markets

Use data-driven oversight that neither freezes rates nor abandons disaster-prone areas

Allow rates to reflect true wildfire and climate risk so private insurance markets remain viable

Minimize rate regulation and climate mandates; let markets price risk freely

Should California hold a plebiscite on leaving the United States?

Yes—hold the vote and pursue independence if a majority supports leaving the U.S.

Allow a nonbinding advisory vote to air grievances without committing to secession

Oppose a secession plebiscite; focus on reforming federal-state relations instead

Reject independence votes as unconstitutional distractions from governing

Block any secession initiative and affirm California must remain fully in the Union

Should California require new environmental education standards in public schools?

Mandate robust environmental and climate curriculum across all public schools

Add clear environmental education requirements with local flexibility in materials

Encourage environmental literacy without new statewide instructional mandates

Limit new requirements; prioritize reading, math, and parental curriculum control

Oppose required environmental education as politicized and leave content to families and districts

Where do you stand on California's assault weapons ban?

California should expand its assault weapons ban and restrict more firearm types beyond current law.

California's current assault weapons ban should be kept and strongly enforced.

The ban is reasonable but needs clearer definitions to avoid penalizing law-abiding gun owners.

The assault weapons ban is unconstitutional and should be repealed by the legislature.

California should have no restrictions on any type of firearm, including assault-style weapons.

Cap rates, expand bill assistance, and socialize more grid and generation costs

Reduce green-mandate cost drivers and approve more generation to lower bills

Deregulate utilities aggressively and end climate surcharges that inflate rates
